Why Early Swim Lessons Are Essential for Your Child’s Safety

Drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 1–4. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the CDC, early swim lessons are one of the most effective ways to prevent childhood drowning and build lifelong water safety skills.

At Waterworks Aquatics, we offer lessons for children of all ages and abilities, starting as young as 3 months old. Our Parent & Me classes help little ones become comfortable in the water while teaching vital survival skills such as rollover breathing and back floating. As children grow, they can advance to private or semi-private lessons where they learn proper technique and build endurance.

Why is this so important?

Most child drownings happen quietly, without splashing or calling for help—often within just a few feet of adults. Formal swim lessons, along with attentive supervision, greatly reduce the risk. But remember: lessons are only one part of water safety. Close, hands-on supervision is always needed when young children are near water.

Our mission is to educate and motivate individuals to be safer and learn proper swimming technique. We encourage all families to make swim lessons a priority.
